Good Thing: If you pre-order the "Orange Box" (contains Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 and 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2) on Steam, you get to download and play TF2 about a month before it officially comes out. Bad Thing: If you already own Half-Life 2 and/or Episode 1, you still have to buy the full pack. Your only reward is that you get to gift your extra copies to friends. |

So now I have to try and come up with someone who wouldn't normally play something like Half-Life 2 (or, preferably, computer games in general), but who would enjoy it. |

My interest orb would be pulsating if you'd said Portal instead of Team Fortress 2. But wait it comes with Portal too! I'd be a complete cuddlebuttocks if I paid a hundred pouns to buy that, though |

I have never actually played half life 2, due to getting scared by the first one like a stupid little girl. |
Now, this is before adjusting for inflation. However - these figures have been up on the BBC's site since this morning, it's just only now that they've 'clicked' with me - and of course, it's currently midnight, meaning that it's still only 4pm on the US west coast. I would strongly, strongly expect for it to have taken enough since the BBC article first went up, to counter-effect inflation.

This on the Xbox will be excellent. HL2, eps 1 and 2, Portal and TF2. Mama mia that's-a lotta gaming Doctor El Paso! Seriously though, so glad I've got a 360! 360! |

Half Life 2 is quite tame except for the running zombies, which are the most scared I've ever been by a game. Once my Dad came in on one of those bits and if I'd been holding a shotgun I would have actually shot him. Luckily I was using the standard mouse/keyboard combo. |

Half-Life 2 is like leaving your house and walking for hours to reach the campsite where you want to go on holiday. Episode 1 is like waking up the next day and taking a leisurely stroll down to the beach for an afternoon, then buying a bag of chips on the way back to your tent. It's shorter, but it feels less like work, and you enjoy it a lot more. I'd like to see how it plays on the 360, but there's a chance I'll end up buying it for both. I fucking love Team Fortress, and if it opens up a greater range of opportunities to play Team Fortress, I approve. |

Yes, they were completely Brilant. Also I thought it was pitched perfectly, difficulty wise. I don't like games to be too hard Timmo! I get upset! You should hear the things I say (swears)! I loved the long sad drive by the coast. Also Timmo imagine this: imagine that you upgrade your knacked old PC to play Half-Life 2, and then it is just not powerful enough to play HL: Episode One properly! Can you imagine that!! Also then imagine that Episode One is rubbish anyway! CAN YOU IMAGINE THESE THINGS |

I absolutely loved the TITS off Half Life 2 (one of my top three games ever probs), but I was left completely cold by Episode One, not even finishing it. What do you make of that, PurpleChairs? Portal looks proper good, though. And TF2. |

Oh! I completely forgot the facehuggers. The orange ones aren't so bad but the black ones. Man. I'm almost scared to play it again, the memories! Now I know how war veterans who watched their family members be tortured and killed in front of their eyes feel. |

No really, it was rubbish. Powering up the gravity gun at the end of Half-life 2 was a nice surprise (and a bit Super Metroid). Doing it again right at the start of Ep One was rubbish. The only new thing, the Zombines, were really annoying and rubbish. This may have been because I never got my brain to a state where I could whip out the gravity gun at a moment's notice, perhaps, but still: spastics that pull out a grenade and then run up and stand next to you while going "Huuuuurgggh. HUUUURRRRRGH" are rubbish. And the final boss was a strider! Fighting the striders was great fun, but doing it again, and it representing a climax, was rubbish. But worst of all was Alyx, argh. I really liked her in HL2, but she just wouldn't shuuuuuUUT UP in Ep One. I just wanted to throttle and throttle her |

in fact the only bit I really enjoyed was the intro, with...bearded man saying "What have you ever created, Freeman?", or something, and the Vortigaunts pulling Gordon away from the G-man, who looked well miffed. |

No. No, no no. Half-Life 2 was full of overly-long sections that just dragged on forever. Usually, the bits in vehicles. Then there were the bits like Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt that WERE REALLY, REALLY GOOD, but didn't really fit in with the rest of the story, much - leftovers from otherwise-discarded storylines from previous builds. Episode 1, meanwhile, was tight and focused and tossed you from one good bit to the next without any boring interstitial bits. Starting you off with the super gravity gun was bollocks, aye, and I thought Alyx would have been better if she wasn't just a really, really tough bot most of the time, but the atmosphere was electric! The underground stuff, where you're using your flashlight as an indirect weapon (by illuminating things for Alyx to shoot), and that climactic shoot-out where you're waiting for the lift to come, and it's pitch black, and the zombies are coming out of the darkness, and your flashlight battery sputters out, and you're using the oil drums and zombie corpses and stuff to make fires just so you can see... it was one of the best moments in any game I've ever played in my life. FACT. |

You're wrong Purps, it's 2 against 1. Soz. I stopped playing Episode one due to boredom, whereas I didn't get bored for Half Life 2 once, and I thought the pacing was spot on. The chilled out bits were a nice respite, and had great physics puzzles. Also, they helped to increase the atmosphere. (Incidentally, too much action ruined Bioshock's atmosphere for me). I liked walking around in Half Life 2 during the less actiony parts and seeing hpow the world had been affected by everything. Which sounds incredibly boring, but really wasn't. Oh yeah, some of the puzzles I played through in Ep one were TERRIBLE. |

OH! Fucking hell, when those leaping shrieking zombies in HL2 made their charismatic first appearance was definity my scariest game moment - the noise was terrifying enough but when I saw how fast they were moving wee and poo appeared as if by magic. I also enjoyed that lonley coastal drive very much indeed. I liked the feeling of melancholy. And then you met that mad old duffer who gives you the rocket launcher. Haven't played ep 1 yet so Orange box is looking like one of the bestest releases of the year. |
